21 Things to Watch for in 2021
Am I the only one that starts off every year randomly singing that Deathcab for Cutie song? You know the one. "So this is the new year. I don't feel any different." Pretty sure it's called New Year.
But I digress. You came here for yet another end of the year/start of the year listicle. You can't get enough of these, can you? Honestly, same. No shame, no shade.
Alright, enough, I get it. I need to give you what you came for already. Fine. Let's kick this list of dope things to watch for in 2021, shall we?
1. This plant
She's in the calathea family, she's a rattlesnake plant. Calatheas are often known as "prayer plants" because of the way their leaves fold upward at night and downward during the day (like they're coming together in prayer).
Anyway, I see big things in her future. Another leaf perhaps? That would be great considering how many holes my cat chewed into these. Really, the anticipation of fresh growth is unbearable!
("Fresh growth"... who is this girl?)
2. Also this plant
Ah, the Boston Fern. Lovely, isn't she? Totally pet safe, too. If I ever get brave enough, I may just hang her from my ceiling. Keep an eye on her for real, y'all.
3. More things that confuse me
Listen, there's a lot out there that I just don't know. Expect that I'll be posing more and more of those questions to you, my friends and followers. Why Google when you can just ask somebody, am I right?
4. The bookshelf
I'm pretty obsessed with rearranging it, and I'm always adding new books and weird knickknacks. Plus, there's a butt vase on it. 😉
5. the base of this cat Tower
My cat eats on one of the levels and, ever since I read about whisker fatigue, I've been feeding her out of flat (cat-only) plates. Well, my girl sloppy sometimes and cat food falls off the tower. Sure, this sounds gross. You're probably thinking I'm constantly having to clean this stuff.
Nope.
Any time my dog rolls into the living room, watch her head straight to the base of the cat tower. Meet: my cleanup crew.
6. my love life, maybe?
Once we all get out of quarantine and past the trauma of the last however many months now (and the 4 years of trauma overall) and someone dope comes around, perhaps.
Probably not, though. I'm a pretty private person. Yeah, I wouldn't bank on this.
But hey! Will I? Won't I? Something to watch for!
7. the revolving door of snacks
Listen, I like snacks. I sometimes have snacks on my couch after recording/work hours. I am allowed to do that. I pay rent here. This is my couch.
Oof.
Sorry about that. I'm passionate about my snacks.
Anyway, you can usually catch them right on my side table. Call it product placement but, like, for totally free. Though I wouldn't mind a little sponsorship (here's looking at you, Coke Zero and Bagel Bites!).
8. This candle
Is it burning right now? Should I burn it? What am I going to do once I'm done burning it? Just so many questions. This promises to be a real nail-biter.
9. unabashed hope & Resilience
As the artists known as Chumbawhumba once said, "I get knocked down but I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down." Watch this girl come in swinging.
(do we love or hate when I get all arrogant like this? let me know in the comments)
10. this dog
She's funny as hell but totally not a morning dog. And, now that she's used to a house with actual walls and is more capable of leaving me out of her sight, she can usually be found asleep in her bed in the "BatCave".
Do I call my bedroom the "BatCave"? Yes. It's cool and dark and I'm a nerd. What else would I call it?
...
You don't actually call your room anything, huh? Alright. I'll see myself out.
But watch for the dog, she's still dope.
11. this cat
Listen, I know some of you aren't cat people. I get it. I recognize that this alienates some of my audience. But, straight up, it also just like, brings tons of joy to a whole other bunch of my audience so yeah, this cat is something for you to watch for in 2021. She's dope, too.
And she "talks" back to me so sometimes we argue on camera. DEFINITELY something to watch for.
12. future sponsorship from Coca-Cola and bagel bites
Not sure if you read #7 or what but, really, I'm an influencer now. This could totally happen. Right?
My Coke expenses have been through the roof since I can no longer just fill 'er up at work. Help a girl out. I've got at least 100 followers on Instagram. Maybe 150, even.
14. My fear of the number 13
I'm not actually scared of it but 21 things is a lot of things to come up with. Why not give myself a hand here? Hotels do it! Airplanes do it! I think?
Do they? Now I really don't remember. Hotels definitely do though, so that counts and I stand by my creative license here.
15. This couch
Sometimes it has a slipcover on it (I hate it but, well, cat). Sometimes said cat is asleep on it. Sometimes said cat is scratching on it and that's why we have the slipcover.
Sometimes there's stuff on the arm rest. Sometimes I sleep on it and leave my pillow and blanket on it. Sometimes my socks are on the floor.
Oh, and is that tissue still under there? I really need to just pick that up.
16. don't forget this plant
It's an areca palm, also pet friendly. The pet friendly piece is important because this is a favorite treat of my cat's. And by treat, I mean that it's not at all a treat.
For some reason, she munches on the lower leaves sometimes. Sometimes, she throws those lower leaves back up. I especially hate when she does this. Not because she vomited and especially not because she probably did so on one of the area rugs despite having AMPLE easy to clean wood floors to puke on. No, not because of that (though I am just now remembering that I woke up to her puking a couple weeks ago and never found the vomit itself. That can't be good).
I hate when she eats the leaves and vomits because, if she was going to throw it up anyway, why'd she have to eat it in the first place? Plants aren't cheap. Keeping them alive takes work. Seeing fresh growth is exciting. Why is she like this?
Watch for this plant, y'all. It'll be a battle between the grumpy feline and, well, me I guess. She's so going to win.
17. things that frustrate me
You know I'm going to be talking about this a bunch this year. Watch for the things that frustrate me. You know, so you don't do them.
18. Dope lego builds
Listen, I get it. I'm in my 30s, I play with LEGOs. I'm not ashamed of this. LEGOs are dope. I feel real focused in when I build.
Watch for dope builds. There will be many probably.
Also, my birthday is January 26th so, you know, if you're wondering what to get me...
I mean, what? You don't have to get me anything. But you should. And it should be LEGOs. Don't question it.
19. the hottest collection of dog toys scattered about
Really and truly not the hottest. A pretty large one though. One that, for whatever reason, contains multiples of things. And I don't mean two of the same ones so we always have a back up. No, I mean MULTIPLES.
This dog currently has 8 varieties of Lamb Chop toys and 5 hedgehogs. Why do we have this many?
Also, can we talk about how I said "scattered about"? Get outta here, I don't deserve your readership.
20. bonus content
Always watch for the bonus content. I think we'll be having some never before done Wednesday Bonus Content at some point in the near future, so that's definitely something to watch for in 2021.
21. Oh, whoops. almost forgot these plants
Listen, I'll be honest. I did a shoddy re-planting job with these succulents and then I put them in a very unsunny spot AND didn't water them nearly as much as I guess I should've (mostly because I don't know anything about succulents for some reason). So yeah, I almost killed them. I think I've got them on the rebound but FOR SURE something to watch for in 2021.
What else are you watching for in 2021?
